Critical Analysis Due Mon. Oct. 1

Critical Analysis

1. Read the quote below:

"Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."

2. Think about all the events that have occurred in the novella.

3. Now that you have completed the book, think about the "so what?" question in regard to the quote above. What do you think Orwell wants his readers to think and/or feel by the end of the book? What do you feel? Think? What larger idea/theme/theory enters into your mind when you read the quote above.

4. Remind yourself that a Critical Analysis (CA) is not a summary of the book. It is not a contextualization of the quote. It is a creative inquiry into some aspect of the quote that you see as being relevant to your own life and/or the society in which you live.

5. Use the documents that I gave you to help guide your CA. C'est tout. Bon chance mes petites fromages.

  2. yes: you are my little cheeses. it is also an allusion to the 51st episode of the west wing, which a professor of mine in college referenced circa 2003.
